Naas C Group Sunday 20th October – The one with the coffee stop @ 70km!
It is a route designed by Hugh and is called the 1KPA +30 ! That is 1km for every year (its Hugh’s 70th birthday). However in Hugh’s inimitable style, he is not satisfied with 70km. So he has extended it to 100km with a coffee stop at the 70km mark.
Therese has kindly offered to host the coffee stop for the birthday boy at her home in Sallins. So, Hugh has set the route to stop at 70km mark (Therese’s home) So we can toast ‘the man’ for his birthday and then proceed onwards, for anyone who wants a few more k’s, to complete the 100.
Hugh is a 30 year clubman with Naas CC and in that time he has served on all posts on the committee in various years, including, to my recollection Chairman 3 times. He is a club stalwart and in his various roles he has brought many newbies through the club system and has always been available to help and assist wherever he has been needed. There is no one in this club who is not familiar with his style and personality. He has a great knowledge of roads and routes and has often taken us to places and roads (usually hills) that we have never been to before. Usually a ‘magical mystery tour’.
This week he joins an illustrious exclusive group of club members who have reached this milestone and I hope that as many as possible can join him for his birthday spin.
The 70k will be an easy steady spin, keeping everyone together and the emphasis will be on ‘social’. The final 30k will be led also by Hugh, but in keeping more akin too his style!!
