King Richard
Leicester’s King was found beneath the paving stones.
Ours for period short did lie by Liffey side
Before surrendering two wheels for four
As to Naas he was rushed in panic as he did roar
A trolley quickly summoned became his lie
In sterile surroundings medics did his condition try
As nurses his clothes reduced to shreds
An x-ray quickly revealed the worst.
His misfortune it had spread out far and wide
As Brian from Alcatraz did swim
Through shark infested waters
Some comfort to Richard he to bring
A chair, a throne, a fitting seat for any King
A spell in Tallaght Richard spent
As medics performed their magic thing
Attention distracted from his self
As in amazement he did spy
The antics in the bed close by.
Then home again in loving hands of wife
His every need attended to by day and night
They came in droves to give their homage
Cyclists young and old, they came to see
As Richard proudly did his wounds reveal
A warrior true as in the days of yore
His wounds well borne
He will in time return
To fight once more
A lesson to all; the ground respect
Dangers lurk as Richard will attest
Club rules in direction right will point
But in the end applied with might
We must with cream of safety anoint.
