Forty Years
More than forty years here
Lots of comings and goings
New arrivals, growing-up and moving on
Old people dying
Paving riddled with potholes
Worse than an old bog road.
A patchwork quilt of patching
A layer for each year
Life goes on…….
Summer sun and winter storms
They made no difference
An unnamed road long forgotten
Constituency boundaries revised
They tried to pawn us off…
On Wicklow and Shane Ross
But it didn’t last…..
Still forgotten, no one loved us
What had we done?
The year two thousand and eighteen
A christening, the L6041
(Why didn’t we think of that?)
At last! We were on the map
And with it, they laid the carpet
A new road, a fresh start!
